On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, China. ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2’ (SARS-CoV-2) was confirmed as the causative agent of what we now know as ‘Coronavirus Disease 2019’ (COVID-19). Since then, the virus has spread to more than 100 countries, including South Africa.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, while announcing that houses of worship will now be allowed to hold in-person services -- with certain restrictions to guard against COVID-19, said “As a nation, we have a responsibility to respond to this aspect of the pandemic with as much effort and urgency as we have responded to the health crisis, and as we have acted to relieve the economic and social effects on our people,” he said. “We have a responsibility to also take care of the spiritual, psychological and emotional well-being of all South Africans.”

To keep you updated about safety during this lockdown, we have partnered with other stakeholders to help you with the latest information on COVID-19; Church in Action and The South African Council of Churches (SACC)
